It has been one extremely busy past few months at Rush Creek Wines. On November 7th of this year I officially took ownership of one terrific winery from one fabulous owner, Bonnie Young.
My story with Bonnie has been an amazing journey - imagine attending a meeting and being asked to make wine, full time. That is exactly what Bonnie did and having never made an ounce of wine, I decided I would dedicate my working life to wine making. Doing what I do is not for the weak of heart. The pressure is enormous because if you don't make award winning wines then you don't survive in the industry. My indoctrination into this new chapter was interesting to say the least. I had about two weeks of training, I even had to take picture of how the machinery in the winery worked because I was shown once. I soon learned that other wine makers are not very interested in sharing secrets and I have developed a few of my own. My wife Phyllis and son Jeff have joined me as co-owners and that has me very happy. My son is a terrific guy, he has my work ethics and I will help make him a success. His goal of owning his first ever rental property by 25 years of age was realized this past February 2017 (with the help of dad) and to own a third of a winery in the same year is amazing. He has earned it and he is my business partner. My wife Phyllis is the glue that keeps up all together - we have been married for 34 years and together we have raised 3 children. We have a 27 year old daughter Rebecca and Jeff has a twin sister Jessica. My kids and family drive me to work damn hard because I want the best for them all. Over the next several months we will be making some changes at Rush Creek Wines however we will continue to build upon what Bonnie has built over close to 4 years. The logo has changed but we kept Bonnie's favourite colour purple. We will continue to feature this fine lady's excellent photograph work and stay tuned as we will be applying for a special LCBO license to feature Bonnie's Signature Series brands of vodka infused with 8 different fruits. Bonnie is a special lady. did you know that she pushed me to provide 6 different brands of fruit wine after she tasted and approved and all 6 have scored medals at the Finger Lakes International Wine competition featuring 7 countries, 50 States and all of Canada. She is the official taster for Rush Creek Wines and if she says the wine isn't ready for retail, then it sits until it is just right. As the winery owner losing her expertise is my biggest concern. This is a stressfull business and she makes it easier to handle. She has the utmost respect from the likes of the LCBO and that has helped us in many way. The one thing I have always enjoyed about Bonnie is her honesty. Never once has she wavered on integrity - not a single time and I have come to understand this is the only way to conduct business. I am at the winery often and would like to invite anyone to come and take a peak at the back end production area and yea I use 100% real fruit. On behalf of the Rush Creek Wines family, we'd like to wish everyone a happy and safe New Year and best of luck in 2018!
